Upper West Region: Deputy Regional Minister Launches “the Tax and Good Governance Week of GRA”.

The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister in the person of Hon.Amidu Chinnia Issahaku,the Ag Regional Assistant Commissioner of Ghana Revenue Authority ,Mr. Ebenzer Mensah together with other stakeholders launch ‘’The Tax and Good Governance Week of GRA’’

The programme launching took place today 6th April, 2018 at the forecourt of the GRA Regional Office-Wa. The theme for today’s programme launch was ’’Filing your Tax Returns, your Civic Responsibility’’. The week long programme is geared towards enhancing tax compliance among eligible Taxpayers with focus on the filing of income Tax returns and also their compliance measures being undertaken by the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The Ag Regional Assistant Commissioner Mr.Ebenezer Mensah in his welcome address lamented on a number of mechanisms implemented by his outfit to improve on revenue mobilization and how these seemed not to have worked and this thus calls for a new option like today’s programme.

He expressed optimism that with full implementation of this programme, the state is most likely to rake in more revenue and hence fulfilling the” Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda.
He concluded by recalling that,Somewhere last year 2017,GRA launched a National Tax Campaign seeking to sensitize the populace, especially eligible taxpayers, on the need for voluntary compliance in honoring their Tax Obligation to the State.
In a key note address delivered by the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister Hon.Amidu Chinnia Issahaku,he made it clearly known to the participants in fulfillment of the mantra ‘’Ghana -Beyond-Aid’’ agenda hatched and being implemented by this current administration, it is imperative to mobilize revenue domestically. This programme launched therefore, serve as a brace by government and the citizenry to rely on domestic revenue mobilization.He is quoted to have said’’ All over the World, Taxation is a tool which countries rely on and use to mobilize revenue to develop their economy’’ with this, Ghana is not an exception.

The Deputy Regional Minister, Hon. Amidu reiterated the position of this current government to the creation of equal opportunities for its citizenry through the various social interventions being implemented and hence, would require that, eligible taxpayers fulfill their civic responsibilities by paying their tax. He also revealed that, Government has further declared a tax amnesty to enable taxpayers register, file returns and make outstanding payments for prior years without the imposition of interest and penalties or persecution. He espoused that, these interventions are all geared towards ensuring voluntary compliance by the tax payer.

He concluded his address by disclosing that, GRA will soon mount tax clinic in specific and vantage places to assist citizen in filing of their income tax returns and that, the whole process would easy.
