A newly completed Maternity and children block in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region was today handed over to the District Health Directorate by the Upper West Regional Minister and the District Assembly after a delayed handing over for apparently no tangible reason made to the public.
The handing over or commissioning of the new facility was in a response to a call by a citizen vigilante in an article titled’ ’An Open Letter to The Upper West Regional Minister’’ .This article sought to suggest urgent reasons why the facility needed to be put to use after been locked up for about three years while both health authorities and patients manage with crowded wards and thus sometimes compel some patients to be treated in corridors.
The event which took place 29th October 2020 and saw in attendance, the Upper West Regional Minister Dr.Hafiz Ibn Saleh, The NPP Parliamentary candidate in the person of Hon. Salifu Naliwie Baluwie, the Representatives of the District Assembly led by the District Assembly Director, the constituency Chairman in the person of AlhajI B.Dramani, The District Director of Health and Representatives of the District Hospital, the media and also other Constituency Executives of the NPP .
The new facility is intended to host the maternity and children as the old wards were always crowded thereby inhibiting smooth discharge of duties by the Hospital staff and also discomforting patients on admission.
In the Regional minister’s presentation, he admonished the Health Directorate to make judicious use of the facility thereby deriving maximum benefits from the project. He also reiterated government’s commitment to improving the health needs of its citizenry and thus Sissala West District not being exempted from this agenda.
The Regional minister took the opportunity to do the handing over after been invited to participate the General Assembly meeting which took place at the Assembly conference hall.
