The paramount chief of the Tumu traditional area Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI emphatically forewarn the president on the need to fulfill the top most priority of his people since its existence has been a nightmare on travelers. He made this pronouncement to his Excellency the President of Ghana Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo Addo with cognizance to the deplorable nature of the road from Wa-to-Bolgatanga in the Upper East region of Ghana.
The message was carried in a welcome address during this year’s 23 rd March,2019 celebration of the Paari Gbielle festival of the Chiefs and people of the Tumu traditional area. The mammoth event took place at the forecourt of the Tumu Kuoro’s palace and in Tumu the Municipal capital of the Sissala East of the Upper West Region of Ghana. The essence of the annual celebration is thanks giving for bumper harvest in the area and usually used as a platform to articulate their predicaments to government and also to open up investment opportunities to potential investors. Some of the food crops cultivated among the SIssala people include yam, rice, groundnuts, maize, millet, soya beans, sweet potatoes, beans and so forth.
This year’s celebration was on the theme’’Parri Gbielle Festival;a tool for the restoration of our cultural heritage’’. According the paramount chief of Tumu Traditional area, the theme was purposely chosen to draw the attention of the Sissala people to the rapid nature in which their cultural heritage is gradually eroding and paving way for western culture which is incompatible with their up-bringing in Africa.
Present at this year’s event was His Excellency the President of Ghana Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo Addo, deputy chief of staff, interior minister Ambrose Dery,deputy Upper West Regional minister Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku,MP for Sissala East hon.Abbass Raidwan Dauda,MMDCEs . Also present were paramount chief of Lawra who acted as the chairman of the occasion, Kusanaba from Bawku and many other chiefs with their dancing groups.
The paramount Chief of Tumu traditional area Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI on behalf of his people expressed their overwhelming joy for having a sitting president to grace their festival since after rejuvenating the festival ten years ago. He however hastened to say, he and his people were not surprised for the president honoring their invitation because the past election showed how they endorsed his presidency by voting massively for both presidential and parliamentary.
Participants were treated with a package of activities such as drumming and dancing, hot metal licking by blacksmith, acrobatics, Bayila war dance by the Tumu people which sent participants in frenzy and in amusement seeing live dog and goat being chewed raw amidst firing of musketeers.
